Not your typical "beach treasures".

Not your typical "beach treasures".

I took the dog down on the beach for the first time since August. The walk was mostly "to" and "from" and not so much "on", because we always walk too far and then it's a real battle walking home.

I found this piece of Halloween fabric on the approach road, and I filled my coat pockets with wild rose hips, for jelly. I only picked the ones up high, to avoid any chance of getting something that had been hit by a dog.

I've never made rose hip jelly, so I don't know if it will be a success, and I really should have more of them to work with.

Trying for a comeback...

I've been trying to get back here and be a better blogger after an extended, really rough time, but I'm having no luck posting photos.
I suppose I could do text only, but that's not nearly as much fun.
Will keep working at it.

Thrift Shopping Quickie...

Quick Thrift store shopping expedition late this afternoon--cut short by closing time. Boohoo.

$6 netted me 4 window valances each 80" wide, brand new linen-type cotton, enough for the bedroom window and a huge pile of pillows; knitting needles; and a hardback quilting book filled with far too many new projects.

More soup

Dinner.  Homemade bread and soup with 15 bean mix, onions, carrots, celery, ham, cabbage, green peppers, a sprinkle of chili seasoning, thyme, and nutmeg and ginger. It was yum yum yum! :-)

Soup's on...

Soup's on :-)

I had a little left-over meatloaf and decided to make soup with it, so I sliced the kernels off an ear of corn and a chopped zucchini that also needed to be used up. Added some left-over green beans, 3 types of dried beans, a can of chopped tomatoes, some chopped green pepper I had in the freezer from when I bought some humongous green peppers for only 39 cents, and some beef broth I had in the freezer. Some oregano, garlic, lemon pepper and a light sprinkle of salt, let it simmer in crock pot for a few hours then added some cheese tortellini I bought for 75% off.

Hearty, healthy, delicious soup "on the cheap".

Don't you love it when you're looking through a book or magazine "just because", and you find exactly what you've been needing? I have some sets of 5" charm squares and had decided (finally!) that I wanted to put them together in huge English paper pieced hexagons, to make a quilt for when I'm on the sofa.

I just sat down with an old quilting book for a few minutes and had barely started flipping through the pages when I came across a tiny star which had a hexagon outline in the exact size I needed. I traced it to make sure it would work, then made a template from (what the heck is that stiff template material? It's 4:30 a.m. and I haven't been to bed yet--brain shut down hours ago!) and off I went.

Dinner

Chicken ravioli, pan fried with sauteed green peppers and onions, garlic pepper, and a sprinkling of grated cheeses. Yum.
